Why do jinns react so strongly to a verse in the Quran about vegetation?
Q0017: Asalaamu Alaykum Warahmatulaahi wabarakatuh, I wanted to know why Jinns/shayateens react strongly to certain verses of the Quran. For example, there was someone who was possessed and she was listening to the ruqya, Ayah 58 of sura A'raf was being recited and the jinn reacted so strongly and was bothered so much. Why this specific ayah? I looked up the translation and the ayah is talking about vegetation.Nothing to do with jinn. Please tell me, inshaaAllah. Jazakumulaahu kheyran
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Wa alaykum as salam and jazak Allah khair for your question.
It is really a shame that we as Muslims, including myself do not give enough of our time to understanding the Quran and thus the Quran has very little affect on our hearts. Yet upon the shaytan they have a tremendous effect.
I will quote the whole passage of the Quran so that we can look at the verse very briefly in context and the answer will become clear.

54. Indeed your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!
55. Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors.
56. And do not do mischief on the earth, after it has been set in order, and invoke Him with fear and hope; Surely, Allah's Mercy is (ever) near unto the good-doers.
57. And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a heavy-laden cloud, We drive it to a land that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to descend thereon. Then We produce every kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall raise up the dead, so that you may remember or take heed.
58. The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the Permission of its Lord, and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but a little with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for a people who give thanks.
[Surah Araaf 7:54-58]
Explaination
There are two main themes, where ever they occur in the Quran, they have a strong affect on the shayateen
1) The Oneness of Allah, the signs of His existence and His Names and Attributes
The passage begins by describing Allah as the One True God worthy of our worship and it continues to provide proof after proof of His existence. Proof that is clear, manifest, undeniable and tangible like the day and night. In everything from the trees to the stars there are signs of intelligent design and not random accident.
2) The Hereafter, Resurrection, Judgement Day, accountability, Hell fire and Paradise.
In the second part of this passage- although the discourse is about sending down rain and vegetation growing forth.- the deeper meaning of this is that there are several places in the Quran that Allah vividly shows us His Power and Ability to bring dead things back to life.
When a seed or acorn receives water and nourishment from decomposing matter, it grows into a plant, then a sapling, then a small tree until it reaches maturity and bears fruit which contain seeds. The tree grows old and dies maybe after a hundred years and decomposes.
The very nutrients in this tree goes back to nourishing the seeds from this tree and thus a new plant grows from the original tree and the cycle continues.
Allah (swt) shows us vividly in these ayat that just as Allah brings back to life these decaying trees, thus He is fully capable of bringing back the decaying human body.

[Surah Araaf]
The shaytan want to live in denial about the akhirah and ultimately accountability. Thus these reminders affect them strongly. Most if not all the verses selected and complied under the term "manzil" refer to these two broad themes because of the affect they have on the shayateen.
I hope this answers your question and no doubt Allah Knows Best.

"They (angels) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise."
[Surah Baqarah 2:32]
Peace and blessings be upon the final messenger Muhammed (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) his family, companions and everyone who follow him in righteousness.
