Difference between normal contact with jinn and contact via black magic?
Q0050: Salamu aleykuim.I've got a few unanswered questions in my thought. I am wondering is contacting the jinn same was as obtaining black magic ? As im a religious teacher in a current high school. Im teaching about islam. I do have knowledge about jin's etc. but not to an extent. Also, how do people manage to get in contact with them? As there're two ways.. halal, haram. If someone was to contact a jin how would they? and what would the difference between them be? - Jazakallah.

Wa alaykum as salam.
Jazak Allah khair for your question. Talking to jinns and doing black magic is two very different things. One is inevitable and halal but the other is deliberate and involves committing shirk. Engaging in conversation with a jinn is not intrinsically shirk if you come across a jinn in real life or during ruqya. One should avoid calling them to come so he can talk to them as this sort of action could lead to shirk.
Rather if you begin to call upon them and the names of their tribe leaders, by doing haram, becoming naked, dancing around a fire, burning incense, offering food or sacrificial animal in their name, or obeying their commands then it is something detestable. There are many other forms of shirk that magicians use to initiate such as disrespecting the Quran.
When a raqi (ruqya practitioner) is doing ruqya for a person who is possessed the jinn often causes the body to start shaking. This is because the jinn inside the body is shaking out of pain. Sometimes they begin to scream and shout (manifestation). At this point the raqi may decide to engage in a brief conversation to determine some important facts in order to assist the jinn to leave the body.
Below is an extract of my own experience talking to a jinn. I did ruqya for my friend's son. This caused the jinn intense pain and so after a few moments the jinn manifested and I made him an offer. This one chance will not be repeated
1. To embrace Islam, leave willingly, the easy way- honored and dignified, with the forgiveness of Allah.
2. Or leave by force, humiliated and disgraced, the long, hard, painful way.
Alhamdulliah (praise and thanks belong to Allah) he chose the first. He knew the Quran is Words of Allah and said
"It burns me".
"And it will guide you to the Straight Path and fill your heart with light" I said.
I reminded him that if he lies and doesn't leave I won't repeat this conversation again.
He took his shahadah and I gave him a new name abdur Rahman. He also promised never to possess or bother another Muslim again.
There were a lot of detailed questions I was tempted to ask him but I just wanted this to be over with so I only asked the most important ones.
Me: "What religion were you before?"
Abdur Rahman: "None"
Me: "Are you a jinn or shaytan"
Abdur Rahman: "Jinn"
Me: "Why did you possess him?"
Abdur Rahman: "Because he was vulnerable"
Me: "Which part of the body did you enter from?"
Abdur Rahman: "The mouth"
Me: "Are there any jinns or magic that is preventing you from leaving this body?"
Abdur Rahman: "No."
Me: "Which part is it easiest for you to leave from the feet or the mouth?"
Abdur Rahman: "The mouth"
Me: "You will go live in Makkah or Medina or Yemen where I've heard there is a large tribe of Muslim jinns who will look after you and maybe you can marry a female jinni."
The jinn then exited from the mouth and left the house through the open window.
If the jinn had said it was shaytan I wouldn't have bothered offering it Islam because they enjoy doing evil and would have just pretend to become Muslim to waste time. In such cases you keep burning them with the Quran until they leave.
Be careful of "holy men" who claim to use "mokals" or Muslim jinns to assist them. You can never truly know if a jinn is a Muslim or trying to trick you until they've actually left the body of the possessed people. Many of these "holy men" actually use shayateen. I wouldn't trust anyone who claims to use the help of jinns.
