Can jinn possession be cured through self-ruqya?
Q0053: Assalamualykum I wanted to know if the jinn can be removed with self Ruqya or does the patient have to see a Raqi to get the jinn removed. Q2 Is it essential to see a Raqi for treatment if the patient is unable to find a reliable Raqi or unable to afford to see one. Is self Ruqya sufficient. Jazakallah?

Not seeking ruqya and being patient by doing self ruqya for oneself is an action of very high reward in Islam. You need to look at your own situation- can you be patient and still struggle and strive and be good Muslim? If so then maybe you do need ruqya.
However if you are in a situation where the jinn is physically and mentally harming you and you are at risk of suicide or other forms of harm then it is obligatory upon you to seek help.
If someone you know and trust offers to do ruqya for you then you do not need to stop him out of fear of missing out on this reward.
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said:
“The phrase in the hadeeth about the seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without being called to account, that they “do not ask for ruqyah” means that they do not seek it from others. But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded us and taught us to seek treatment, as he said: “Allaah has not created any disease without also creating the cure; some know it and some do not.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, no. 5678).

From a practical sense can self ruqya remove jinn from the body? It is possible but it takes a lot of effort and mental strength. You should have ruqya treatment but not reply purely on the raqi because it is Allah azza wa jall Who Cures. Also you should help the raqi but avoiding sins and doing as much self ruqya as you can to weaken the jinn and remove the sihr so that when you do go for ruqya to someone sincere it will be effective and quicken your healing.
