Father diagnosed with sihr (magic), can it be jinn related too?

Q0014: My father has been Ill for About 3 years now. He had Ruqya done about 9 months ago & was told he had sihr. Since ths his illness has become worse, he hears waswisah, he can't pray because he feels very weak, thoughts that r cuming to him are evil & sexsual & he can't bear them anymore, he feels suicidal, he keeps being reminded of the past & crys. Do you think this is sihr or could it be jinn or maybe both? Jzk
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Jazak Allah khair for your question.

I am sorry to hear about your father and I ask Allah (azza wa jall) to cure him from everything that is affecting him. I ask Allah to make his suffering a means of expiation of his sins and elevation of status in Jannah. Ameen.

It is important that you explore all medical avenues first before concluding that it is sihr. Beware if anyone using dubious methods such as measuring the length of a clothes, or rope etc. It is also wrong for anyone to request your mother's name or date of birth etc.

There is nothing mystical about checking is someone affected by magic the, rather the signs of magic are obvious from plain observation- reactions to the Quran. Most people who have been affected by magic will react to verses of the Quran which make reference to magic, namely;

  • Surah Baqarah [2:102]
  • Surah Baqarah [2:255] - Ayat Al Kursi
  • Surah Ara'f [7:117-119]
  • Surah Yunus [10:81-82]
  • Surah TaHa [20:65-69]
  • Surah Ikhlaas [112]
  • Surah Falaq [113]
  • Surah Nas [114]

The type of reactions that a person might experience are headaches, vomiting sensation, arms or legs jerking, movement in the stomach- depending on the type of magic and how it was administered.

Again I emphasize that it is important to make sure that we explore all the medical options available to us before concluding that the issue is magic. A person affected with magic will react to the verses of the Quran however the person who has a  a medical illness will not have any negative reaction to the Quran.

Please ask your father to listen to the Quranic verses that I have uploaded below and note any reactions that he has.
I can not confirm or deny at this stage if your father is affected by magic, but if we go on the assumption that he is- then it can be said that magic alone cannot cause the effects that you have describe.

Magic is usually done for a specific purpose and affects a person's emotions in a specific way. For example if the sihr has been done to separate a husband from his wife- he may feel sudden and unexplained surge of anger and hatred towards her every time she comes near him. He might look at her as see a weird and ugly expression on her face.

In majority of the cases that I have come across and heard about, the magic has been sent via a jinn. The jinn enters the body along with the sihr and therefore when the person has reactions, some of the reactions are from the jinn while others is from the magic.

It might appear confusing at this point, as to how are we suppose to distinguish between the two. The difference is in fact quite subtle.

In the case of sihr your father may feel moment inside his stomach without pain, vomiting sensation or headache. The reaction will only be to ayat al kursi and sihr verses not to general ayat of the Quran.

However if there are reactions to the Quran in general- such as burning sensation, dull aching pain, pulsating, anger or hatred towards the Quran, an urge to turn the audio recitation off- then this is because of a jinn possession.

The battle between jinn-kind and mankind began between Iblis and Adam (alayhis salam) and is continuing right now. Undoubtedly once a person has ruqya done and the jinn is exposed then it no longer feels the need to hide or harm a person secretively. This is the reason why situation of a person could get worse.

This is a battle that we cannot afford to be passive or defensive but we need to take an offensive approach, very much as the shayateen (devils) have taken with us. Suicidal thoughts, sexual thoughts, reminding a person of their past are all weapons of the shaytan to overwhelm them with negativity to prevent a person from becoming close to Allah, from praying salah and ultimately giving up hope in the mercy of Allah (azza wa jall)

Your father needs to have a positive approach to this. To create a positive mentality your father needs to begin by ignoring the thoughts that shaytan gives him by focusing on these two ayah-
“Say: O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
[Sûrah al-Zumar 36:53]
And also
"And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right"
[Ankabooth 29:69]

Practical solution

Now your father needs to begin his climb up to recovery, like climbing the side of a hill. He might trip up along the way but as long as he doesn't give up he will be victorious in the end- which is near insha Allah.

1) Every time the shaytan reminds him of his past let him remind shaytan of his future i.e. Hell fire.
If your father sheds even one drop of tear out of fear of Allah because of his past mistakes then indeed Allah Loves the one who repents to Him and will reward your father with Paradise insha Allah.

2) Every time shaytan gives your father a sexual thought punish the shaytan by saying "astaghfirullah" (Oh Allah forgive me) at least ten times, meaning it sincerely
By making this in to a regular habit the shaytan will realize that his plan to weaken your father is only helping your father do more good deeds and will give up giving him sexual thoughts. Shaytan hates it so much when a Muslim repents to Allah. your father is no accountable for these thoughts as they are not from him, rather he will be rewarded for making istighfar.

3) If your father misses his salah then it will only give the shaytan more strength over him.
It will be difficult on him first because they shaytan will put up a strong resistance but if your father can be strong for even 20 min he will over power him with the Will and Help of Allah. If can't pray standing let him pray sitting, if he can't pray sitting let him pray laying down. If he can't pray reciting long surah, recite a short surah.

If he has sexual thoughts in salah let his say "A'uzu billah hi min ash shaytanir rajeem" (I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed devil) and spit lightly to his left and keep praying.

4) Please encourage your father to adopt the morning and evening protection duas as they will have an immensely positive effect on his condition.

Please click here Morning and Evening Protection duas.

5) Let him listen to this ruqya audio below once everyday with ear phones.
6) When your father feels better and stronger emotionally, and in has faith he should get ruqya done from someone reliable in your area to help remove the jinn. Please click here to find a ruqya practitioner

7) Finally if you discover that it is definitely black magic one of the most effective ways to remove it is finding the original charm or items (taweez) that was used to perform black magic and destroy it. It could be a piece of paper with strange boxes and grids, it could be hair, bones, blood, clothes of the victim etc

It is important that if you suspect someone to have done the black magic on you that you avoid confronting them about it. Keep your ruqya and treatment secret because often when the word gets out that you are seeking treatment the magic is renewed by the original culprits again.

Unfortunately, majority of the times the original charm can never be found and therefore the previous 6 steps have to be adopted to deal with it and it is a long term process.

The only authentic way to find the charm is to wake up regularly for tahajjud salah* and make dua sincerely to Allah to show you a clear dream what is affecting you.

As a result of doing this many people have mentioned that they saw the location of the charm. In some cases they were able to find it and destroy it and in effect invalidate the magic that was done.

How do I dispose of a taweez?

I hope this answers your question and no doubt Allah Knows Best. I pray that Allah blesses your father with good health and eman. Ameen.

Peace and blessings be upon the final messenger Muhammed (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) his family, companions and everyone who follow him in righteousness.

Notes:
* Tahajjud salah is a prayer that you pray between isha and fajr usually after you've had a nap. The best time to pray it is in the last third of the night about and hour or two before the time for Fajr salah enters. You pray it as you would pray a normal two units (rakats) of salah. You can pray as many as you like but its preferred to read 8 rakats. After completing the 8 rakats make you can make sincere dua.
