Ruqya without wudu (ablution)
Q0057: Asalamu alaykum,
1) is it permissible and still effective to do ruqya when you do not have wudhu. For example in situations like when you are in bed and want to keep reciting all the verses of black magic and ayatul kursi but do not have wudhu but are in a state of ritual purity. Or if you are not able to do wudhu if you are out but have time and need to do ruqya on yourself for protection or weakening jinn possession/evil eye etc.
Thank you

There is nothing wrong with reciting the Quran (from memory or a text) without wudu as long as there isn't direct skin contact with the pages of the Quran. For a more detailed discussion about this please click here.
This applies to ruqya as well so you can read the Quran, for ruqya purposes, at any time without having wudu. It is however better and more effective to be in wudu, as much as you can, as it is a high level of physical and spiritual purity which the shayateen hate.

It is narrated from Ibn e Umar [RA] that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said,
“Purify these bodies, and Allah will purify you. Whenever a slave spends his night in a state of purification, an angel spends his night within his (slave’s) hair and he does not turn over during the night except that he [the angel] says: O Allah, forgive Your slave, for he went to sleep in a state of purification.”

Peace and blessings be upon the final messenger Muhammed (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) his family, companions and everyone who follow him in righteousness.
